One of the most popular neighbourhoods of Toronto, Leaside was developed after the first world war. Majority of its homes were built in the 1930s and 1940s, in Tudor style. Generous lot sizes, private drives and garages are typical in Leaside, and most of the original homes have lovely wood trim, hardwood floors and fireplaces.

A good number of original bungalows have been renovated with an addition of a second storey, and more and more older homes are being demolished and new custom designed homes built instead. Popularity of the neighbourhood guarantees that even expensive renovation would not be considered an overimprovement.

Leaside has excellent schools and a number of parks, Bayview Avenue offers outstanding shopping, with grocery stores, small specialty shops, boutiques, and cafes. Recreational complex, Leaside Memorial Community Gardens, includes an indoor swimming pool, indoor ice rink and a curling rink.

Although only a short driving distance from the centre of Toronto, Leaside offers its residents an ambiance of a small town. It was built as a planned community, and created for Toronto's upper class in the early 1900s. Although the developers were hoping for Leaside to be annexed into the City of Toronto, that application was refused, and Leaside's beginnings were as a town with a population of 43. That small town feel is still present here.
